About thisbank

Banking – it’s one of the oldest institutions in the world, so it’s not surprising that organisations stick to the same old names, same old products and same set ways. Here’s the thing: they’re banking (pun intended) on you doing the same.

thisbank is different. New name. New look. Still 150 years of experience and a deep-rooted heritage.

Man on moped

Us and our people sit on the board and have been honoured by over 10 charities and organisations

We look out for people beyond banking, collaborating with national cancer charities, mental health foundations and government officials, to name just a few.

How did we get to this?

We’re making big promises about a better way to bank because we’ve got a long track record of doing just that.

thisbank is the next chapter of our story.

Our journey began 150 years ago, when a missionary founded the Westmoreland Building Society, over time it evolved into the JN Group, with a clear purpose of helping more people get the most out of life and more out of their money. And then in 2025, we took an organisation with a proud overseas heritage, brought in new leadership and backing to create a brilliant new British bank.

We don’t just follow the market, we lead the market with innovative products that don’t just copy what’s already available.

The JN Group is born

The Westmoreland Building Society launches in Jamaica.

The first merger

The Westmoreland Building Society merges with three other Jamaican building societies to form the Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS).

JN Bank UK starts to form

JN Bank UK is established and starts work to become an authorised bank in the UK. The Group is now called The Jamaica National Group.

JN Bank UK launches in the UK

JN Bank UK receives its banking license and starts offering savings accounts and unsecured personal loans like many other similar banks in the UK.

Fresh leadership and renewed investment

Following a change in leadership and renewed investment, thisbank started to move away from overseas ownership.

The beginning of thisbank new era

thisbank is born. Following further investment and a move away from overseas ownership, a brilliant new British bank is born. Completely relaunched under new leadership and ownership, thisbank starts a new innovative approach to banking in the UK.

We have big plans for our biggest year yet with the launch of new innovative products and services.

this is who we work hard for

For everyone that deserves more from their bank

For the self-employed, who feel the frustration of being shut out of traditional loans, even though they work just as hard (sometimes harder!) as anyone else. For first-time buyers, who’ve spent hundreds and thousands on rent, but can’t get that vital first step on the ladder.

We work with like-minded changemakers, including Step One Finance and Gen H, to give more people more opportunities. For people who deserve to have their applications treated as carefully as they treat their hard earned money. To us, you’re more than your application form. We see you as a whole picture, not a number.
