If you’re finding it hard to keep up with repayments—whether it’s to one lender or several—there are ways to make things more manageable. Two options that people sometimes explore are an Individual Voluntary Arrangement (IVA) or a Debt Relief Order (DRO).

Here’s a quick breakdown of what they mean:

  • IVA (Individual Voluntary Arrangement)
This is a formal agreement between you and your lenders where you commit to making regular monthly payments over a set period. It’s legally binding and can help protect your assets from being taken if you’re unable to pay everything back at once.
  • Debt Relief Order (DRO)
A DRO is also a formal agreement that lasts for 12 months. During this time, your financial situation is reviewed. If you’re still unable to repay your debts after that period, they may be written off. To qualify, there are certain criteria around your income, debt level, and assets.

Everyone’s situation is different—both financially and emotionally. We know it can be confusing to figure out what’s right for you. If you’d like to talk it through, our friendly team is here to listen and guide you toward the support that fits your needs.

Financial control can be a form of abuse — know the signs

Financial abuse can look like someone restricting your access to money, taking out credit in your name, or making you feel powerless over your own finances. If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone—and you don’t have to face it alone.

Learn more about what financial abuse looks like and how we can help you take back control.
